Free repair shop software: what is actually free

1. A free trial
A trial is the whole product for a limited time. It is free only until it ends, and the length decides whether you can judge the product on real work or only look around.

2. A free plugin for a website you already have
RepairBuddy is a plugin for WordPress that is free to download from wordpress.org, with a paid version that adds features. It runs on your own WordPress site.
What it costs: you need a WordPress site and its hosting, and you are the one who keeps it updated, backed up and secure. Your customers' names and phone numbers are on a website you are responsible for.
3. Paper and a spreadsheet
A printed repair ticket and a spreadsheet of jobs cost nothing and work for a shop writing a few tickets a day. Our repair ticket template is free, with no sign-up.
What it costs: your time. Nobody is told their repair is ready unless you call them. A customer who lost their stub waits while you look. And you cannot see last month's numbers without counting.
When it is worth paying
- When you take more than a few calls a day asking whether a repair is ready.
- When finished work sits on the shelf because nobody told the customer.
- When you have run out of a part in the middle of a job more than once.
